I was recently working on the interior of my truck and noticed that the metal framing behind the dashboard and glove box has rust. My truck is an '03 Silverado 2500HD, is this a common occurrence for chevy vehicles or does this indicate I have something wrong? I'm just surprised that this part of the vehicle could rust considering it is on the interior of the truck and covered by the dashboard. Should I really be worried about this problem or am I just being anal about wanting no rust? Also, is there anyway for me to sand away the rust without it getting into the electric components and the heater vents?

It's absolutely normal. They don't put any kind of protective coating on those bars. You would probably get dust in/on everything if you tried to sand it down. I would just leave it alone.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure it was normal.
