I have a friend who just got a 96 silverado with the 5.7 in it. He was talking to me today and he said his brake light isn't working. I told him to check the fuses and the bulb to make sure they werent blown. What could keep the light from lighting up when he pushes on the brake?

Switch under the dash connected to the brake pedal? Does he have turn signals and tail lights?

Sometime there is water intrusion from the lense seal. Tell him to check the electrical contacts and maybe clean them. A pencil eraser can get in there and "sand" off any build up.

He said his signals and stuff work, jut not the brake light.

I'll have him check the contacts

First off when working with lighting system. Go to your local auto parts dealer and buy a light tester then systematically check components.

    Starting with:

    Power to the brake switch.

    Power from the brake switch.

Power from the power box into the engine compartment.

Power at the "T" which connects your brake lights to your trailer hookup.

    Power before the light fixture.

    Power at the bulb base.

Hopefully this helps. It should help you isolate the component. If all else fails take it to a shop.

Neither of them work. Push on the pedal and neither of em work.

I'll have him try the tester
