Hey guys me and my dad have recently thrown the idea around of taking off the catalytic converters because of the performance. But any way in order for my truck to pass inspection don't you have to have a chip that tells the mechanics computer that the cats are still there? Does any one have any experience with this stuff and what do y'all recommend? All the info on my truck is in my signature. Thanks guys

For the Cat installed on your 2011"........the late Model Cats Flow Very far as telling(Computer) the Mechanic if the Cats are still there.....In Calif before passing a Vehicle for Smog Check, the Mechanics/Techs have to look and see if the Cats are where they should be....along with the MAF Sensor and so on.....As far as in Texas, it may be different??

Some texas counties have very similar smog protection stuff as cali. For example Harris county defiantly does, Angelina county does not. When you go for inspection if they hook the computer up to your truck, then its smog regulated, if they just check the horn, lights, ect... then its not.

Gov. Perry is suppose to get a bill passed that makes all counties reduce their smog emissions soon, so I wouldn't mess with cats in Texas on a new vehicle.

Leave the cats on your truck, it will run better with them unless your building a all out race truck. As Mike mentioned the new cats flow well. If you remove the cats you will need a custom tune. Alot of peope take them off because they think its a cheap way to get performance, but it really hurts performance.

X5 on Mike Heartbeats post on the visual inspection. When they do the visual portion of the I&M they look for everything to be there & for any modifications or customer tampering.
