the factory one that you ccan buy to fill that CD slot has a thin felt lining on it so stuff wont rattle in there, I think i just ordered mine from the dealership, it was pretty cheap I know that.

As for your engine whine in the radio, being that it is factory and that your truck is pretty old, you most likely have an exposed wire somewhere. It doesnt have to be an actual radio wire either, it could be one of the battery wires under the hood as well. And no there is no radio at all other then a factory one to go up by the intrument panel on your truck. really your only option is to get the kit to mount it under the A/C vents and then order the little cubby/shelf that can go were teh radio controls currently are.

Crawdaddy and vncj96 - thanks for your input. One can always hope that something better will come along and fit in that spot. The factory radio for those years just doesn't do much for me these days. I don't have a huge cassette collection anymore thanks to CDs and MP3s, and that setup just isn't aftermarket friendly.

    Thanks again

Thrifty350, if you Google the terms "double DIN kit 2000 gmc 3500", I think you can find some web links to places that sell the kit to install a double DIN aftermarket unit. The one thing you may or may not find is an outer finish panel. It depends on the kit. Sometimes you have to fabricate something yourself. I would recommend trying Crutchfield first, because they have been around since the 1970s and they sell a lot of that stuff. If you don't find it I would email or call them and ask about it. The other thing you can consider is at least consulting a professional installation shop to ask about whether they can do what you want and how much they would charge. It could be worth your money to have them do it so it comes out really nice.

Metra part DP-3002 is a complete dash trim replacement that has a double din opening for 99-02.
    • ISO DDIN radio provision
    • Large panel replaces the factory dash panel and provides the space for a modern DDIN radio
    • No custom fabrication work is required
    • Painted scratch resistant matte black
