    Hi folks,

I'm Steve in Ohio. I bought an '08 Silverado new a few years back.
Within the last six months or so, the cruise control was acting up, and only engaging if I would tap the brakes first. Recently, it will not engage at all.

I asked a dealership and they said it may be out of adjustment and mentioned the brake lights may stay on, so I started tinkering with the sensor on the brake pedal. If I pull it all the way up, the lights stay on, so it seems that sensor is working.

Has anyone else seen issues like this, know where the switch setting needs to be, or can tell me I'm not even looking in the right area for this?

    Thanks guys

Hey Steve, welcome to the GM truck club.
I think what the dealer was trying to tell you is that if the switch was out of adjustment, or sticking, or the pedal was sticking, the brake lights would be staying on & this would deactivate the cruise controll.

I'm guessing that when you were tapping the brake pedal before to make the cruise work, you were "unsticking" the switch.

Welcome to the site! Did you simply call your dealership or did you have them take a look at the problem in person?

I actually took it to the dealership, but they were busy and could not look at it, and could only talk it through to me a little.

I have a crazy work schedule and am going to try and get in this coming weekend because it is annoying.

Well guys, I finally got around to changing the brake sensor this weekend, and my cruise control is now working. A cheap $20 fix, but a little disappointing that it wasn't even three years old and stuff is already failing.

Glad to hear you got it fixed cheap. I have owned several new vehicles (not all GM) and I have always had to return to the dealer for something...usually minor.
