Defroster blowing dust

I have a 2006 2500HD that has been blowing black dust from the defrost; i.e. I wipe off the dash and a week later there is black grainy dirt all over it. I hear rumor that this is a known problem due to a bad gasket/seal in the air handling system, somewhere in front of the firewall. Can anyone point me in the direction of where to find info on fixing this? Thanks

Well even though yours is an 06 depending on when yoou bought it, it could still have some warranty but either way this sounds like something for the dealership to deal with

Unfortunately I am the 2nd owner so I may not have the ability to claim this as a warranty item. Of course, the local Chevy dealer wants $$ just to diagnose this problem.... thanks

its probably a foam seal deteriorated. check the fresh air door, pull the wiper cowl off and see if you can see anything in there. If not pull the dash

I pulled the wiper cowl off, everything looks fine in there. By the way, my wiper cowl was loose at both ends, the plastic hole had broke that holds it down, that's fixed now. It appears that all fresh air comes in thru the wiper cowl then down toward the passenger side firewall area. My cabin air filter should be taking care of all this dust correct? I'm guessing there must be a bad foam seal somewhere between the outside and the cabin air filter. I don't notice it now in the summer since I'm not using the defrost.
