Is there any new news on GM putting a diesel in these beasts? I for one would really like to have the torque of a diesel under this hood.

GM doing it... No.... There are a few shops that will convert them to a Duramax/Allison drivetrain though..... One of them is in FL

    Look up Duraburb on youtube...

There was talk of putting the new 4.5 liter Durmax in Subs and 1500 trucks. Even though the new Durmax was in the final stages of development, the whole program went south with the economy.

With the current "I get great gas mileage but I'm driving a death trap" policies out there I'm just happy they are still building the gas version.

Agreed, I just hope they (Government Motors) do not decide all of us need unibody construction and 4cyl engines. Hopefully GM can get from under the current administration's thumb so they can start making decisions that their core supporters want.
