Disc Brakes On '99 3/4 ton

I have never liked the feeling of the brakes on my '99 3/4 ton. Does anyone know if the rear brakes can be retrofitted to discs or any other thing else I can do to make this truck more responsive to the pedal? My local Chevy dealer says it is normal for the brakes to feel that way in a '99.
    Thanks,
    Tom
