I'm hearing a squeak from the drivetrain when backing up. It's only when reversing and sounds like a dry rubber bushing??? Any ideas? I have to wait for a friend to investigate.

Is it speed dependent? Or just a random squeak?
    Miles and vehicle type?
I'm thinking possibly a universal joint.

Squeaks when reversing at slow speed. If I shift to neutural while rolling the squeaking stops.l

It is most likely a u-joint squeak. 99% of the time when your experiencing symtoms like you are it is a u-joint. Is it a reg cab, crew? If its reg. cab it may only have 2 u-joints, one at the tranny and rear axle, I larger cab it could have a cariier bearing witch would add another u-joint. Either way you can remove the driveshaft and swivel the u-joints and if you feel on that is rough or gritty feeling you found the problem. Also very carefully pull the cups off and inspect the needle bearings. If they are factory u-joints then they probably dont have grease fittings. Hope this helps
