Early 2000 tahoe gauge problem

Since i bought my early 2000 tahoe the fuel gauge will twitch , also notice whining noise through stereo while its doing it, not and all the time thing . But enough to be a pain.

Done a little research and i am told it is a chronic problem on the early tahoes, but unable to find any bulletins on the subject.

Was told the harness that plugs into the fuel tank rubs on the frame and causes the problem.

Any body heard of this ? Or can point me in the right direction ?

    Thanks mike b.

    Mike-

I've the same problem and yes, it is a chronic problem. I've notfulll-on tackled the problem yet but it seems as though it could be a few things.

I've already done the replacing of the fuel pump assembly. I think it comes down to needing a new cluster. I haven't done it yet, but it pretty much looks like that will have to be the end result.

If you look around this site you'll see that problem having been brought up a number of times.

If you fix it, please, please let us know!

I have the twitchy gauge problem, it's kind of annoying but it could be worse. A friend of mine started having electrical issues in his chevy, turns out there was a bare wire shorting out inside his gas tank. So basically he was driving a bomb. :gasp:

I received a letter a while back on the "gauge problems" and a Class action suite against GM and it was to cover the cost of the gauges failing prematurely. Mine is still going strong, but it might be something you should look at. I diidn't keep the leter but it might be a place to start looking. Good luck!

did you replace the harness that plugs in to the sending unit ?
also do you have the noise through your radio ?
