fog light issues

I have a NBS 2007 silverado and replaced my lights in both the headlights and fog lights. My problem is the fog lights were replaced with putco bulbs in the range of 3800K and the chrome in the housing has now chipped and were made to a dull finish no longer shiney. But the headlights were changed to PIAAS in the 4000K range with no problems yet. So what I am asking is anyone else had this problem and what about HIDs with a higher K more heat? What can I do because I am looking to replace the foglight housing but do not want it to happen again.
