Gas filler pipe on 78 C10

My 78 pickup has the typical horizontal gas filler pipe on both tanks. It's always been difficult to put in gas because it's hard to hold the pump hose handle horizontally against the pipe. Now my favorite station has installed pump handles with shorter nozzles. This new nozzle shuts off every few seconds because of the backup of gas in the filler pipe. Anybody got a solution to this problem?

My 78 has the same problem and it's even worse when you factor in the vapor recovery nozzles. When I get out of the DFW area, the pumps out there are more user friendly. I hope someone has a solution for this. Sorry I couldn't help.

    Good info

Thanks. It's good to know somebody else is having the same problem. I'm wondering if we could put a short piece of tubing on the pump nozzle so it would dump the gas further into the filler pipe. Do you think that would work?
