how do you change gear ratios on a silverado?
You replace the ring and pinion gears in the differential (front, too, if you have 4wd).
but how do you buy something?how much?
lots of places sell them. I'll probly be using accuautoparts but summit, jegs and tons of others sell them. Find out what type of rear end you have and then buy the gears accordingly. The gears range from about 130-350 depending on brand and quality. You'll also have to purchase an install kit and they can run from about 45-100. Install is also expensive. Expect about 250-400.
Heres a place I've been using for a few years: http://www.ringpinion.com/Default.aspx
I also use PORC: http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/
but they mostly carry low ratio gears for off road trucks.
