GM announced an all new 4.5L 32 valve Tubodiesel V-8 that's the sixe of a small block gas engine will appear in the Hummer H2 and Silverado/Sierra trucks. The engine produces 310 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque and meets 2010 emissions standards for all 50 states. The engine will wear the Duramax name but was designed in house at GM without Isuzu.

The new H3 Alpha will have available V-8 power. Since it shares a platform with the Colorado/Canyon trucks speculation from insiders is that these trucks may also get a V-8 option.
