Is it difficult to drop a 5 cylinder motor into a Canyon which has a 4 cylinder?
I would just do a V6 or V8... If I remember right there is only a 20 HP difference in the 4-5..
I just did a v8 swap in my 04 Colorado, 5.7 ls1 out of a camaro. Save your pennies and dimes, I have over $10,000 in the swap and it's still not done. We did all the work ourselves, except for some welding which was sent out.
TRPLX2---will you be able to keep the rubber on the rims with a 5.7....
Boy and I'll bet she goes when completed Brian
i briefly toyed with getting a new 2012 colrado with a 5.3. id love to see a ls1 crammed in that engine bay....
Here's a teaser for ya, when I get home I will make a build thread so you can see all the photos.
that looks awsome!
You can get a Colorado with a 5.3L and they have 300HP. That's more powerful than the 5.7L engines.
From what I understand, the stock Colorado with a 5.3L does 14.50 in the 1/4 mile. That's way quicker than a Silverado.
the ls1 in the old cameros was no 5.7 truck engine.
the new 5.3 cans have 300hp, 320 ftlbs while the silverado 5.3 has 315hp, 335ftlbs. id either try and put a 5.3 in it and get it tuned better OR trade your truck in towards a factory 5.3 can.
Not be a let downer, but the stock 5.3 in the colorado dyno's at 240hp at the wheels. 300 hp is at the crank. Mine isn't stock either, I'll post a video here in a minute.

Here's a video for you, cammed, stalled, TBSS rear axle swap, still in the process of being finished. This took over a year to complete, I'm pretty sure we can take down a 5.3.
Now that is SWEET!!! I want to see it at Carlisle Truck'in Natl's this year....
dear god that things sounds awsome!
note to self, if i see a colorado with the pbrtime plates, dont try and race it....
We are going to the Carlisle truck nationals this year for sure, last year we were going to go but an electrical gremlin reared it's head the weekend before the show....
Alex ha ha!! Well If an old man is driving it, don't worry he's harmless but If you see a young girl driving it then BEWARE!!! I love a good street race, and the truck sound wicked at WOT!! Once we get the truck all finished, I will upload a video of us trying out the line lock!!
See you there I hope.. Waiting for that video.....
I want to see it doing this..
And showing like this....:great:
I don't believe the Colorado loses 20% of the 5.3L horsepower through the drive train.
The Silverado has 315HP at the crank and 275 at the rear wheels with a 5.3L. That's a 13% loss in the drive train.
This makes me hate California smog laws even more!! Nice Colorado man
