I'm looking at a 2001 Silverado 1500 Z71 Extended Cab Normal Size Bed.

    The pros:
The interior and exterior of the truck is in amazing condition.
The truck has 114,000 miles on it.
Has a bed liner and tool box.
Super 40 Flowmaster exhaust on it.
    Hypertech Econ Programmer
    V8 5.3L Engine

    The cons:
The engine, ABS, and brake light are on.
    The truck needs new tires.

I had the error codes diagnosed and I find out the catalytic converter has been gutted and an ABS sensor needs to be replaced. The owner was asking $10,000 before I knew these problems with the truck.

Whats the highest you would pay for the truck? KBB in excellent condition says $10,535. The truck is cosmetically in excellent condition, but with repair/maintenance work that needs just to pass inspection running over $1,500 I'm not paying full price for it. Let me know what ya'll think.

I just your thread about what is this Silverado is missing...the Cats 02 Sensor's and the ABS sensor's are out.......Have you asked the owner to see Maintenance Records??......this is a way to see how this Silverado has been serviced over the years,

.....depending on weather you do the Work/Repairs or a looking at a fair amount of $$$$$....and that's just with the items you have mentioned.....there may and most likely are more repairs that will be needed (
The owner was asking $10,000 before I knew these problems with the truck)....question is....what else has the owner not mentioned about what is wrong and/or needs to be repaired on this Silverado......meaning there could be more $$$$$ out of your Pocket.

......$10,000 for a truck that has 114K miles and the problems you've mentioned,
There are a Lot of Trucks out there For Sale.......IMO you would be Better off walking away from this one and search/look for another one.....just my .02 cents.

Usually, not always when you find a gutted cat/cats, they were bad and the owner didn't want to spend the money to replace them. What else did he not want to spend money on?? As Mike said, I'd walk away from it.

I see what you all are saying. The main problem about finding stuff out about the truck is that the person selling it to me took it as a trade and has only had the thing for 4 months and is looking to get rid of it because he wants something better on gas, Therefore I am only able to get a service record for the past 4 months. The owner seems pretty desperate to sell the truck though. If I was able to get the truck for $7,000 would that be a good idea or should I still just walk away? I included a few pictures of the truck

I think $7,000.00 would be fine.

That looks like a lot of truck for $7K & if you can fix/replace the parts yourself you'll be even farther ahead.
Keep in mind that KBB values are only guidelines & the dealers & private party sellers can quote them all day long, but if you live in an economically depressed area, their vehicles will sit there unsold because people won't or can't pay those figures.
