So today, I'm driving to work. I'm stopped at a light and suddenly...SLAM. A guy in a Mustang just creams the back of my truck. We (meaning I) move off the road so traffic can continue, but he can't move his car. I'm furrious of course, because I'm worried that there is some major damage...but he hit the receiver hitch. When I moved my truck, it pulled his bumper off lol. So after the sudden on-set of anger I realize that I just have a small scratch on the plastic of my bumper, where his is currently attached. He was trying to blame me and the officer called him an idiot for driving the way he was in the, I'm in my work uniform (Paramedic) so the officer let me go pretty quick.

Just thought it was nice to mention that my receiver hitch destroyed a Ford. Hahahaha. So, I've decided to change the name of my truck to Betto: The Ford Destroyer.

That's the way it is here, too...but people are still dumb enough to try and blame it on the person they hit.

serves the idiot right.

glad your truck is ok. my truck has one of those bully hitch steps on it for that very reason, if i get rear ended, they will hit that first.

Despite there not being a lot of obvious damage, you may want to send the truck off to the body shop to make sure nothing got shifted. A small rear-end collision can shift the frame, especially since it was a direct hit to the hitch. I'm glad everyone was ok.

lmao thats hilarious, but I'n glad to hear there was no major damage or injuries. My previous truck was a lifted S-10 which had duals coming out the back with the tips sticking out a little past the bumper and they had a 45 degree slant on them. Someone rear ended me and the tips actually punctured their hood. Guess they really werent paying attention because their car went under my truck kinda far. Luckily they werent hurt either.

X2 what Crawdaddy said, just to be sure. Glad to hear no one was hurt and the only casualty was the 'stang and probably the driver's pride. I'm going to get a hitch also!

Well glad to hear you and the truck were fine, oh and I guess the ford guy too. When I saw the title of the thread I thought to myself, "Oh no!" but glad to hear damage was prevented by your hitch. If I didn't have the bumper sensors I'd do something similar but anything near the receiver would set my sensors off. I also think it is funny that the cop called the guy an idiot! Well at least it was something to make you laugh rather than to start your weekend off bad.

I'm taking it to my friend's body shop next weekend to make sure nothing is wrong. I haven't noticed anything wrong yet, so I guess that's a good thing. I unfortunately, don't have the proximity sensors, but I will soon have a back up cam of some kind installed in the plastic around the tail gate handle.

There are bad drivers all over these days, Driving to work the other day a jerk in a Miata comes flying up behind and so close I couldn't even see him in my mirrors , stopping for a red light I said to myself " hey stupid hit that receiver hitch and you'll be cryin". Light changed he tried to pass but didnt make it , forced his way into a left turn lane.

Hey... Glad that your okay... Trailer hitches and stuff like that are easy to replace... Just a pain in the butt... Funny enough, I drive a Ford truck for work, and someone in a GMC Sierra hit me yesterday... (backed right into my law enforcement truck) .... The guy was crapping his pants... He goes, shoot... Wrong person to hit..LOL Their hitch hit my passenger door and put a nice hole in it..

Just thought that I would share my Ford-GMC accident story.. LOL

I dont have a Ford-Gm accident story.. but i DID get rear-ended by 2009 BMW M-series in New Orleans in 2010.. hitch poked a nice hole in the front end and demolished the radiator (Truck sat a little higher then lol). It was epic. Guy was crapping in his slacks, gave me $350 cash and I went about my business hahahaha. I love demolishing cars with my hitch.

Glad to hear there wasn't much damage. At least not to your truck. It's amazing how fewer people try to do stupid stuff around me when I'm in the truck. If I'm in the Camaro they're all too happy to pull out in front of me  but if I'm in the truck they think twice about it. Although last time I pulled a car some idiot pulled out RIGHT in front of me. 5000 lb truck (probably more than that actually) plus 2000lb trailer plus 3800lb car and you're gonna pull out in front of me???? Wow.

I did hit a deer at 50mph or so a week ago with no damage. Hence the new nickname for the truck and my new siggy. I reckon I still need to pull the deer fur out of the bumper. Still wondering if a deer guard on the front is a waste of money but at the same time it doesn't look right without one. Most trucks have em back home (Oklahoma) but they don't seem to be as prevalent here.

Man, good to hear yer truck was ok! I WAS gonna leave my tow hitch in my truck for that very reason...until I tried backing up one day. Gosh darn back up sensors picked up my hitch and screamed that I was about to hit somethin! Thought about getting a Road Armor rear bumper, but I don't have the cash for it...nor do I have the facilities to cut the four holes in the bumper to keep the sensors still. Oh well, will just have to wait til I hit the jackpot at the casino's!

Good to hear you seem ok and uninjured. But be safe and get checked out yourself. Oh and the truck at the body shop as well.
Whiplash comes on about 2-3 days later. No sense risking it make sue you get checked while you have the insurance information and can get him to cover your expenses.

Chevy vs. Ford= 1 for Chevy Zero for Ford.

I'm glad to hear the damage to your truck was minimal. Taking it to your friend's shop is a good call since I've heard of frame damage from hitting the hitch receiver because the force goes straight to the frame. I would also be having the other guy's insurance replacing the plastic step pad for the scuff on it. When I was rear-ended in January, I got new center and right-side step pads on my bumper even though the guy only hit the very far right side of my truck... the slightest bit of damage to that center pad from the bumper itself bending got his insurance to replace it.
