Headers with cat-back?

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 with dual cat-back exhaust (high-flow cats) and no mufflers on a 4.8 liter V8. I have been considering buying headers for this truck thinking it will improve sound as well as gas mileage and some power gain. Some of my friends have mentioned a possibility of not having enough back-pressure with there being no muffler and the cats being high flow, the concern is that with the addition of headers the decreased back-pressure would cause problems such as burning valves, etc. I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this issue for me? thanks for any help

Welcome to the club. I would install long tube headers and reinstall the mufflers, Magnaflow, flowmaster etc.....

so you think that headers with just the cats would not provide enough back pressure?
