How to put the chrome front bumper together on a 2000 silverado?

So I need to replace my front bumper (see signature pic). It is a standard chrome front bumper on the 2000 Silverado's and some suburbans, tahoe's.

It comes in 3 pieces, the actual steel bumper, a top and a bottom trim piece. The bottom trim pieces use horrible plastic clips and I cannot seem to get them to punch through the retainer to lock into place because the fit is that tight. Does anyone have any guides or experience on putting these together?

I did double check the clips against the ones in the original bumper and they do match so I know I have the right clips.

    Thanks, Jason.

Hi Jason, I recently changed out my front air dam on my 2002 and I really didn't have any trouble pushing the lock in. Did you get your plastic lock tabs from the dealer or aftermarket? Mine were from the dealer and they gave them to me no charge. You do have to make sure the first piece is in all the way before you put in the lock pin but it should not be a problem. If you continue to have problems get the clip pins from the dealer and they will work fine. Good luck man. :glasses:
