Ok, i've been looking for a new rifle to hunt with for a while, and price has been a big issue. I know you have to spend money to get great accuracy and precision, but i dont plan on taking any 1000 yard shots. i've narrowed it down to a Stevens 30-06 and a Savage 30-06. which one should i go with? i have an old stevens .22 and a couple ancient savage side by side 16 ga.'s. here are the links, if they'll work.

    Stevens:

    Savage:

they're specs are identical so it really comes down to who has used what and prefers what, i think.

I personally like the Savage's. I've yet to find one that I don't like and that doesn't shoot well. Plus, I have an old Savage (probably close to 20 years old) that has held up amazingly well with many thousand rounds down the pipe.

    Savage

I would agree for the money right now. I would look at the Savage 110 in the 270 cal. or 270 Short Mag for deer and elk. The savage has a decent scope rife package out for 339.99 here in washington state. out of the box its good to go IMO.

Good stick to use for everyday hunter with decent accuracy straight from the box.

I dont hunt... (wildlife) I have a Remigton 700 pss in .308. slightly modified.......

Savage gets my vote although in the .270 as well. Up here most hunters still use 30-06 for the stopping power (a long old argument could arise here :glasses: ) as most use the same rifle for moose.
I still use an Enfield SMLE MKIII .303 for deer and moose and never been let down yet. It's all what works for you and what you can afford. Let us know what you get..

I recently bought a Mossburg .308 bolt action. Price was very reasonable and accuracy is excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Mossburg and would certainly at least LOOK at them before you buy.

ok, how many of yall would choose a mossberg over a savage?

as far as caliber goes, i prefer the 30-06 over the 270 because of stopping power. i've used both and the 30-06 doesn't let them run as far. i hate having to track em down.
