I just bought a 96 Suburban LS K1500 last Friday. I had to buy a 25 foot travel trailer with it. The next day I noticed that the ignition wouldn't turn at first after putting the key in. I figured it was operator error and didn't think to much about it. Well today it took me 45 minutes to finally get it to turn the ignition. I looked on here and read about someone else having a similar problem. Even tho their's is worse than my problem I got the answer to my problem. I went down to the chevy dealers and paid for them to look up the code key and make me a new key. Problem solved for $15.00. Thanks to this forum. Thanks all.

I had that same problem with my burb about 18 months ago. Luckily I was parked about 100 feet from ACE when it happened the worst, so I just had a new key made (about $3) and WHALLAH! Problem Solved!

Yep, had the same problem on my 2001 silverado. They old key was way worn down and was terrible, and the other original key is a little twisted, and doesnt always work. I took it to the dealer, they looked up the key code, and it didn't match my keys (not even close. and the truck has NEVER had the ignition or locks changed). Conveniently, the parts woman that day had no idea what she was doing, and after cutting 2 incorrect keys by code, sold me a blank key which i took to Canadian Tire to have cut to the key I had. I still have trouble turning it occasionally, especially into the lock position, but it works much better.
