knock sensor

    would a bad knock sensor contribute to bad gas mileage? its a 2000 silverado 1500 ext cab 4x4 with a 5.3 in it, the truck seems to run fine but the mileage dropped 3 mpg

    Yes it could if it's retarding the timing too far & too much of the time. Retarded timing kills MPG, also kills the power. Did you notice a power decrease along with the MPG loss? Many other things can lead to lost MPG so don't limit your diagnosis to the knock sensor.

    X2 what stephan said. How long since you changed your fuel filter and have you cleaned the MAF?

    thanks guys the fuel filter &maf were both change about a month ago!the check engine light is on & the only thing showing up in the chevy dealers diagnostic computer is the knock sensor
