Well i have been considering getting a diesel truck recently. And i have been looking at lbz dmaxs, and the 12 and 24 valve cummins. Now i would like to get one with under 100k on it, but miles are not everything, my friend got a 96 dually xcab 12 valve with 265k and no 5th for $2700 and loves it. So im looking for honest opinions on if i should be looking at trucks with over 100k, year isnt really important as much as said motors above. What would be a good place to look? im open to traveling to get a nice diesel. any input is good just looking for ideas here

I bought an 06 3500 Dually extended cab with 49K miles on it, love it! I am picky I won't buy a truck with over 80K on it diesel or not. The repairs on diesels are quite costly, so unless you know who owned the truck and know they didn't abuse it would be helpful. If it has been abused and not taken care of turbos injector/ fuel pumps and injectors are not cheap!

Diesels can run for thousands of miles it really just depends on the truck. If you can take it to a trustworthy shop and have them run of it,if everything checks out then you should be fine with a 100k truck. We have an 06 cummins that is on 53s on it is used and abused by my whole family and it runs great still, which remins me I should probably go change the fluids in it. But i wouldn't sell it to anyone since it been so abused I hate them get it in it blow up on me cause it hasn't been properly maintained since I quit using it as a daily driver 3 years ago

ahhh. very true. so what in all honesty would be the cheapest engine to maintain? im not looking to hot rod a diesel too much if i get it just very mild stuff. i have heard some good things bout the old 6.5s but also heard bad things.

Cummins is the hands down leader for reliability. There product is very solid and will garner you many miles of service when properly maintained.
