Ok here it is! I need some help from y'all. I've had my true dual exhaust on with dual glass packs for over two years now. I love that its loud but to be honest it just snaps and claps way to much and makes it sound cheap. I can take a little clap but this is to where there is no deep rumble, just snap. I've decided its time for a new muffler! I've looked at flowmaster 40 series and dynomax ultra-flo welded series because I still want it to be loud! What mufflers is everyone else running and what suggestions do you have?! Thanks!

I have had it two ways.

    1) Dumped right at the cab//bed break- Very Loud, Especially while you are on the Highway. It was almost to the point that I could not really carry on a conversation while i was driving.

    2) I ran straight pipes out the back- Still a very aggressive loud sound, but you were not completely drowned out. Definitely could still hear it in the cab of the truck, but still listen to the radio and carry on a conversation.

Thanks! Thats really what I'm leaning towards. Anytime I hear a good sounding truck I ask them what they've got and usually they say flowmaster! Plus it helps they are cheaper than the others!

Yeah I can see where right under the cab sure would be loud. Right now I've got mine out the back and I've got no drone at all. Its strange for such a loud truck I can't hear it on the interstate at all!

On my 95 I have dual Flowmaster 40's and I love them. Loud when I want them to be, quiet when I want that. On my Sierra, I have a knock off Ebay brand version of Flowmaster's 10 series, which is a 1 chamber muffler. I have it turned out to the side, exiting just before the pass. rear tire. It's the same thing as the Flowmasters on my 95, loud on demand, but quiet anytime else. My dual 40's are louder than my 1 chamber because I don't have cats on that truck, but the 1 chamber is way more deep than the 40's. Its all about what the system consists of. Headers? Aftermarket pipe? High flow cats? ETC ETC. To give an example, I had a guy bring a dodge scsb with the 5.7 into my shop today. It sounded super aggressive and deep. He had some crappy muffler on it, but some ceramic coated headers and 3in pipe leading into that muffler.

I have a Flowmaster also but I have a 50 series. It of course is not as loud as the 40 but it is deeper and I love it. I rather have that deep tone then loud IMO plus ppl that ask me about it love the way it sounds, but I agree with the others flowmaster is the way to go

Yeah I've always wanted headers but just haven't been able to justify them yet. Especially since the plan is by next summer to have a turbo on my truck :) so that will require a new exhaust system anyways! I haven't talked about that plan much though!

Thanks for the help Chrome! I may have to look up some videos and compare the 40 and 50 series to see what I like best!

I was the first one to get Flowmaster Super 44 in my area. I dont know who was more excited to hear the sound me or the guy who was putting the mufflers on. After they were put on a guy, waiting for an install after me, who originally wanted Flowmaster 50 series changed his mind, and asked me if he could ride with the installer to hear how much sound was in the cab. As they both got out of the truck it was nothing but smiles from all three of us.

Needless to say the installer said that he was going to order alot more of the mufflers. Since then he said that he cant keep them in stock.

My beast had a magnaflow and I hated it, tons of drone, it rotted in under 3 years so I had a flo-pro put on, love it! Betty throttle feel with it, no drone and way better sound, my mule however I will be going with a flowmaster Super 10!

I tell you what, I have always been a huge fan of Flowmasters. I have had them on my 71 Chevelle for almost 10 years, they still sound as good as when I first got them. To me, glass packs are only good on old Lead Sleds, but that is just my point of view. On anything else I would go with Flowmasters, they are high quality and sound amazing.

Well since nobody will speak up for Magnaflow, I guess I will. I'm running a simple single in dual out magnaflow muffler and I really enjoy the way it sounds. I liked it more when I didn't have cats on the truck but it still sounds good. I don't get drone in the cab and cruising at 70 mph it's relatively quiet. As for the quality of the muffler, it still looks great and I've had it on for 2 1/2 years. Nothing against Flowmaster because I think they sound great, but I decided to go with something not everyone else had (as evidenced by this thread )

For those of you like me who don't know what drone sounds like here is a good video.

Titan with Flowmaster 50 - YouTube

This is a 2005 Nissan Titan. You can hear the drone about 2:25. I had to turn my speakers all the way up to notice it or you can use headphones. It is annoying as hell.

Anyone got any specific advice if you don't have a big honkin engine. I have an old 305 in my 91. I was planning on getting new duals put on. Right now I'm running factory and it's barely audible. I want something deep but not extremely loud. I read in the thread someone recommended flowmaster Super 44's and the 50 series. The guy who's going to be putting them on is recommending a 40 series. Do you think I'd be happy with that considering what I want? Thanks guys.
