    Its great now. Around the 70s with about 18hrs of daylight.

    Welcome aboard!! I'll bet it still took you some time to aclimatize to Alaska weather and temperatures! I've been to Alaska three times, each time on a cruise ship. The scenery is beautiful, but I'll bet the temperatures can be pretty cold during the winter.
