Hey guys. Im new to the forum. I just purchased a 86 Chevy K-10. It has a 305 with a quadrajet. A 3 speed with overdive stick, and 3.73 gears. This truck is totally untouched and as stock as they come besides some dual exhaust. The truck has 101k on it. The truck is an 86 but was built in 85. This thing is really lacking on power which I figured it would. So my first question here is, what can I do to this thing. I know I can swap just about anything into it, but id rather not right now. My thought is to start eliminating the emisions stuff and put a open eliment air cleaner and headers on it for starters, What do you think about this? Any troubles I may run into? Thanks in advance. Brandon

no problems if I am not mistaken you can put a 350 intake and heads on it and this will give you a lil more umph for cheap

    Welcome aboard.

Those 305s are dogs, not much you can do about it. I would personally be looking for a TBI 350 from a 87-91 blazer or sub and swap it in. You will be very happy. Another approach would be cam, intake, carb upgrade.

As for the 350 heads, most people like the 305 heads better.

Welcome. I had an 85 305 and I removed the AIR pump, disabled the EGR, rerouted the vacuum advance and opened the air cleaner and exhaust cold weather doors. It made no difference.
    A dog is a dog. <G>
I then installed a crate 350 and that solved the problem except it was carburated. In retrospect I should have bought a used low mile TBI motor.
