Offsets are they necessary or not?

Okay I'm looking at wheel options and I'm not sure what to do about offset, I'm running a stock suspension 2011 GMC 1500 and looking to stay with a mostly stock sized wheel and tire combo, going from the17x7.5 steel wheels to a 17x9 inch, and from 245/70/17's to something around a 265/65/17. Now to do this is any offset required? Is offset just for a wider stance appearance or are there clearance concerns? Thanks in advance!

Id say do the offset just for a wider stance IMO
