Paint issues and questions

Hey guys, had another question for all of you. My 2003 Silverado has a few spots of rust on the rockerpanels. Now these are not huge spots, but I notice them because I am kind of a perfectionist when it comes to keeping my stuff clean (other than my room hahah). Anyways, I asked a friend who painted my bike what it would cost to paint the rocker panels, and he priced them at 300 bucks each! That seems real high (he painted my motorcycle for less!), even though he is a professional painter. Is this a reasonable price, and should I look at just doing it myself? I am ok with a wrench, but i just have never trusted myself painting anything on a car. I've done some house painting, and a little filler work (around the house, never bondo on a car). Its a issue that I know will get worse unless I take care of it, so I'd love to get some input from all of you soon so I can take care of it in the next couple weeks. Thanks!
