i released my park brake but it seems to be engaged still , mostly only in reverse. i start to back up freely then it suddenly jerks and now im spinning my tires to reverse. going forward is okay not too much resistance at all. it is cold here like -22 could it be frozen in spot or is there another fix?

Sounds like its frozen, either the cable or the mechanism it self. Do you have a garage you can park it in to let things thaw out?
I guess in an emergency you could use a heat gun to thaw out the brakes by blowing the heat gun at the brake backing plates. But at -22 that might take a while to thaw.
I was always taught during freezing weather never use your parking brake because of just this type of situation.

I think that might put to much water in that area and refreeze as soon as you park the truck again.
