I have a 96 Sub with just over 100K on it. Fuel pump has never been replaced. Seems like everyone I talk to has had a fuel pump problem at about 100K. Am planning to go on a long trip soon and was wondering if anybody out there recommends changing the pump at a certain age/mileage instead of waiting for it to fail.

Just curious what others' experiences with fuel pumps have been.

    fuel piump

"If it ain't broken don't fix it." Was my dads favorite line.

That and, “ If that don’t work get a bigger Fkn Hammer.”

If you are going on a long trip I would have an extra pump and the tools to replace it, I wouldn’t replace it before it fails Though.

Fix it only if it breaks

AAA card, I never leave home without it.

Trip Interruption Protection and Vehicle Return Benefit

AAA Premier and AAA Plus — provides Trip Interruption Protection when you're on a planned auto trip more than 100 miles from home. If your trip is delayed overnight or canceled due to an accident, mechanical breakdown, car theft, unexpected illness or injury, natural disaster or severe weather, Premier members will be reimbursed up to $1,000 for the cost of meals and accommodations OR for the cost of substitute transportation, and Plus members will be reimbursed up to $750 (some conditions apply). And, the AAA Premier and AAA Plus Vehicle Return Benefit provides a reimbursement of up to $500 to help you get your car back home if an unexpected illness or injury prevents completion of your trip (some conditions apply).

Or you can take the pump and tools along for the trip.

PS: I can't afford to leave home without it. It is a 93 burb with 200k miles! Recently they towed me 95 miles from my sister's house when the steering box broke.
