Rear End codes for 96 Suburban 2500

    Hello what are the rear codes for the rear (and front) diff on this truck and where are they located in the VIN or glove box?

    Yes....In your Glove box is a series of the Letter's and Number's those are your RPO Codes.....you will be looking for one of the following for the gears,

    GU5.....3.23
    GU6.....3.42
    GT4.....3.73
    GT5.....4.10

    Are you trying to determine the gear ratio, or what axles you have? With it being a 3/4 ton, you should have a GM 14-bolt axle in the rear. If it's got the hub sticking through the middle of the rim, it's the full-float version; if not, it's semi-float. The front is probably a GM 9.5 inch IFS axle if it's 4wd.
