I've been asking many gear questions as some of you may know, wondering if 4.56's were the way to go. Today I finally took the time to read my RPO codes in the glove box and came up with these two: GT5= 4.10 ratio and G80= axle positraction, limited slip. I just saved myself A LOT of money. I assumed from reading through the forum that most Silverados, even the 2500HD, came stock with 3.73s but I had a feeling the truck came with posi because of the burnout marks. Also, I never really noticed the sluggish feeling in the truck that some people felt after putting on bigger tires so I wasn't sure if I was oblivious or had different gears. So make sure you check out the RPO codes before you buy anything. No reason to make a few thousand dollar mistake.

Well somebody wanted to be able to tow with your truck.. Glad it came with the 4.11s, your powertrain will be happy for a alot longer with those gears..

Are the 2500HD's known for coming with 4.10s and/or posi? Just doesn't seem like the norm going by what some of the other members say.

Well the G80 is fairly common when you get a 4X4... However the 4.10s arent because most people want the balance of fuel economy and towing power that 3.73s provide.. However (im not sure if you bought your truck new or used) but there are people who wanted just straight up pulling power especially before gas hit $5 a gallon 2 years ago. So the would opt for the 4.11s..

I bought the truck used about 2 years ago, so the previous owner must have asked for that option.

Definitely a good thing and I'm glad I took the time to read the RPO. 4.10 to 4.56 difference wouldn't have been worth the $1500 cost.

GM needs to better clarify their RPO codes, happy with the positraction though. I'm just glad it came with 4.10's so I can spend that money on a custom tune, true-duals and leveling kit rather than upgrading to 4.56's.
