I have silverado 2500 99' 6.0 L and the service fwd light has been on in the display center. I replaced the switch and that didn't fix anything. i took it to a local transmisson shop that checked the electrical wiring and said that it had power to the accuator motor on the transfer case but the motor wasnt responding. they also said that they couldn't say for certain that was the cause of the problem. they said that was the best place to start. they said it would be about 700 dollars with only 1.5 hours in the bid. my question are a) is this correct b) is it something that i can fix myself or do i need speical gm tools c) and whats the chnaces of putting a used motor in it and having a successs?

First welcome to the club! We had that light come on out of nowhere on our 07 2500 HD and the 4wd drive quit working and was stuck in 4 wheel high but I don't think they had to replace anything. Just a computer issue. It is under warranty so I can't exactly remember what it was they did but I can look it up and get back with you if no one answers your question before then.

Stay away from that transmission shop. First, they have no idea what they are doing. Second, they are putting it to you. Badly.

Take it to a good shop or GM dealer that can put the truck on the correct type of scanner. Should be able to tell you exactly what's wrong.
