Getting ready to do the plugs on my 6.0L vortec. My Haynes manuel says the gap should be 0.060 but the pre gapped plugs I have are at 0.055.....where should they be? I'm also replacing the wires but the new ones don't have the metal heat shield on them. Will that be a problem? Thanks...

What plugs are you installing? If they are the Iridiums that your motor calls for then do not try to regap them. Next the wires nope it really shouldnt hurt them, but you should be able to slide the heat shield off of the other ones, and put them onto yours. (i did this is a 5.3L when i did a tune up)

Heat shields are important. Plug wires will be damaged by excessive heat, which will lead to poor performance.

Viewing your Profile, I see you have an 2000" Silverado.......the Plugs it Most Likely came with from the factory were Platinum Plugs, which were Gaped at.....0.60.......Now G.M./Chevy is installing A/C Delco Iridium Tip Plugs and the reason is......the Iridium spark plugs are the latest evolution in high performance plugs. The natural properties of iridium, with a melting point of approximately 700 degrees Celsius higher than platinum, help enable the plug to burn fuel more efficiently and to deliver better performance. As a result, the iridium plugs have a minimum service life of 100,000 miles,

As mentioned by Murdog, your 6.0 Liter now calls for the A/c Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, which are Gaped at 0.40 which is set during Manufacturing and Should Not Be Changed Or Damage to the Spark Plug May Result,
