Steering column cover removal??

Hi guys, I have a 2001 Suburban K2500 8.1. My tow/haul mode is not working and research has indicated most likely cause would be a broken wire where the shifter meets the column. Problem is that I can't figure out how to get the plastic trim cover off.... Expected a couple screws but, while there are holes they don't appear to contain screws.... Anyone done this job?

    Thanks!

    Tom

Does the steering wheel have to come off to do this???

OK, figured this out. The trick was to remove the knee bolster first. Doing this enabled a better grip on the lower cover which then snapped right off. Sure enough, broken wire. A quick solder job and everything works.
