I have 2000 chevy 454 dually that I have chipped specifically for towing a trailer. The way I understand it when you change the programing in the computer from stock to performance to towing. It changes everything from torque to tranny shift points, for each setting. When I have my truck in towing which is where I leave it I get more torque, more power and better fuel mileage then in stock, never tried performance . in performance you get more power and torque but I doubt better fuel mileage. in performance the rpm range for shift points is probably much higher then it would be in tow mode. the rpm's for my trucks shift points in tow mode don't go over 2800.So hope that helps. But hey I'm no expert.
