Tailgate latch mechanism - diagrams? details?

Does anyone have experience with the tailgate latch? Can someone tell me if it is a rod system or a cable system? I'm considering a tension adjustment to make the latch easier to operate and am looking for data before I dive into it. (I'm also traveling so my truck's nowhere near me, at the moment.)

Diagrams, if someone has one, of the latch mechanism and assembly would be awesome.

Thanks for the quick response. That's EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. I don't see any way to increase tension in this system (to make the latch easier to pull). Do you?

I broke my handle bezel, and waited about a year to replace it. Well I live in the rust belt so I noticed the handle sticking when I opened the tailgate. When I would close the tailgate I would have to go as far as to push on the handle to ensure it would latch. So i bought a new bezel, took out the handle mechanism, cleaned it up with a wire brush, a fresh coat of rust o leum, then anti siezed the crap out of it. Works Great, even after 4 years now. Just a slight pull on the handle with a "pop" and it's open.
