Torque Converter Flush or Replace

Working my way into my first tranny rebuild, ordered the manual today, starting teardown after a reading or two. I have a 4L60E which slips trying for third and stays in second, dropped the pan and saw more metal in the pan(and some rocks?) then I have ever seen before. Wondering if it is worth having the converter flushed or if its more worthwhile replacing it.
    Thanks
    Brian
