Hi, I am looking in to getting a new Silverado. And I am comparing the towing capacity of the 3.08 rear end vs. the 3.42. I notice GM rates both with a towing capacity of 7000# (with the 5.3 v8). I understand they put a new 6 speed transmission in to achieve this. I was wondering if anyone tow with a XFE model Silverado. I plan to towing a camper which way approximately 5500-6000#. Thanks for your help

Welcome to the site! The 3:42 or 3:73 is better than the 3:08 for towing in that it makes it a lot easier on the truck. The 3:08 is good for mileage and from what I've read, the new 6 speed auto has extra overdirves. For towing you get more help at the take off with the lower ratio. Good luck!

Is this the dry weight, estimated loaded weight, or maximum weight of the trailer?

for the 3.08 rear end, it would help just to keep it out of overdrive somehow, not sure how they have the sifter set up or gear selection, but i would also think that there is still the tow/haul button available.
