Hey all i just purchased a 97 gmc 1500 4x4. its an automatic and when its idling im hearing a rattling noise from inside of the transmission, around where a flywheel would be located. i dont notice the rattling when the truck is driving and the tranny isnt slipping. im rather confused as to what the noise could be. thanks in advance if anyone can help. :)

I would take the flywheel cover off and see if any bolts came loose and are rattling around.

yeah, i've looked at everything and nothing is loose, and ive had the truck running and gotten under the truck and its coming from the flywheel area, if the flywheel was cracked, wouldnt it not shift as good or something? sorry i know nothing about flywheels / trannys lol.

no it would be fine till it breaks all the way through I am with these guys check for a cracked flywheel or some loose torque converter bolts if the bolts are loose it can wreck the flywheel if it slaps around too long
