How do I tell what brand of transmission is installed in my 2005 Yukon XL 1500 5.3 L flex fuel. Whether it is an Allison or not. Can that be determined from the VIN?

You would have the 4L60E, or the 4L65E (usually used with the 6.0 engine) transmission. They are built by GM and are not Allison transmissions.

Go to the glove box door, there is a list of the vehicle build codes (RPO, Regular Production Order), if you see a M30, you have a 4L60E, the 4L65E is RPO M32
