09 Silverado Z71 5.3 6speed auto with AFM. it gets 14 in town and 15 on the hwy. Normal driving not hot rodding, on hwy i have tried 68 to 78 and it still sucks, I now have 26k on her and am not a happy camper as my 2003 did much better by far. Need input.
    Thank you

Type of tires and low tire pressure can rob a few MPG's
Have engine PCM tuned for economy.
Drive downhill all the time :)

Thats only a few mpg from normal. Also, tires, tire pressure, elevation, and type of driving(flat plains or hilly country) all effect mpg's. So id say do a few easy motor mods(intake, exhaust, tune) and be easy on the throttle and you'll get great millage.

A Civic would be wonderfull but I would not like to be seen in one.
I drive all flatland, tires are always inflated correctly, I live wth no hills, no reason why the truck gets poor fuel econony.

These trucks are only rated for a MAX of 25 on the highway. Are you running bigger tires? Lift? remove the lower air dam? all these things could effect your gas mileage.

    Was your 2003 a Z71 4x4 also?

    I bought an '09 Z71 and I only get 14 - 15 hwy & city. Been wondering myself... thought about K&N system and exhaust..had them on my '03 Avalanche w/ same engine and got 14 - 20
