I just wanted to take a minute to let everyone know that I have looked into the whole SOPA concept, and after looking at the whole concept from as objective a position as I can have ... I've come down 100% against it.

The heart of the matter is trying to protect the interests of copyright owners for the material that they produce, mostly entertainment, which is fine. However, SOPA would put massive constraints on everyone from search engines on down to sites like this where we would have to change the way that we operate and give the government a big switch to turn off any site that they feel hosted too much of this material.

If SOPA passes and any member of this site posts a link to a video or website viewed by ANYONE as a copyright infringement ... they can sue this website to take it down and seek damages. We don't have the ability to defend against this, so it would shut us down. Not a bad tactic if I were an entertainment company that wanted to get into the forum world. Shoot, they could even post the videos themselves, then file a suit seeking damages.

Here's a quick overview of the issue, looking forward to seeing this go down in flames.

(PS - This website is registered with GoDaddy, who supported SOPA - I am planning to move all of my 100+ registered domains away from GoDaddy as I will never work with them again.)

The way I see it, a big part of this is the American government trying to force power over the internet in other countries by blocking it because they don't have the jurisdiction to do anything about non-american sites. It seems a bit undemocratic to be able to force ISPs to block sites that easily - I'd even say it's a bit like communist China.....

    Here’s a tip for the do-it-yourself crowd:
Go to your computer’s Start menu,
and either go to “run” or just search for “cmd.”
Open it up, and type in “ping [website address],”

Once you have the IP for a website, all you really
need to do is enter it like you would a normal URL
and hit enter/press go. Typing in “208.85.240.231”
should bring you to the front page of AO3, for example,
just as typing “174.121.194.34/dashboard” should bring
you straight to your Tumblr dashboard. Since we’re obviously
bracing for the worst case scenario which would involve you
not being able to access the internet regularly, you should, save this list.

id suggest copying and pasting this into a notepad doc or something along those lines... i tried pinging GNTC and going here thru the ping command cheat.

coundlt get it to work tho.....

I agree with your assessment whole-heartedly Steve. I signed the petition when it was up on google back then as well. I understand our government feels the need to monitor every moment of our lives, but there come times when it just becomes ridiculous. This, my friends, is one of those times.

It cools guys if they do anything light that I bet anonymous will shut down everything server the government has. I'm not a huge fan of hackers at all but at least these guys aren't just robbing people
