Took the long rod key thingy and inserted it into rear bumper hole and cranked and cranked and nuthin' happened... Is there some magic words I'm supposed to chant or is there something other than the owner's manual that I'm missing?

I know this sounds dumb, but are you sure you used the correct end into the lower mechanism? I've had friends do this and call me and I found they were trying to use thye wrong end. So they were just turning and turning and turning.....

Give it a good kick or hit with a hammer. It might just be stuck..

G.M. has a Technical Service Bulletin......On the Silverado's guarding the Problems with the lowering & the removing of the Spare tire......

A New Flexible Spare tire hoist tool available to assist in lowering & removing the Spare tire.......Check with your Local Chevy dealer.
