So, the horn went out on my 97 Suburban. When I checked the fuses, the horn fuse was indeed blown. However, when I attempt to replace it it blows the fuse every time like it's hot. The Autozone guy said I probably have a short in the steering wheel somewhere. Any thoughts on this? How do I check for a short at the steering wheel?

On my '99 that I bought very recently the horn was not working. Checked the fuse and it was blown. Put a new one in and zap, gone again. It turns out that the underhood light is on the '99s on the same fuse, and the bulb was broken, with apparently something shorting from the inside to the outside of the bulb. I replaced the bulb, put a new fuse in, and I had a working horn and a working light under the hood.

I have no idea if that is your issue or not, but it was a heck of a lot easier than pulling the steering wheel in search of a short in there somewhere. You might want to check to see if the short is related somehow to the wiring to that bulb, assuming that it is on the same circuit of course.

Thanks for the tip. I would have never thought to check that.
