Canada Goes Gold At World Hockey Championship Sunday May 13, 2007 Canada defeats Finland 4-2 to claim the gold medal at the IIHF World Hockey Championship in Moscow. Rick Nash started the Canadian team off with a goal early in the first period, just 13 seconds after Finnish defenceman Toni Soderholm was penalized. The second goal, scored by Eric Staal, happened on another power play at 13:48 in the first period. One more goal in the second period at 9:11 by Colby Armstrong had the Finns down by three. The game appeared to be all wrapped up until Petri Kontiola and Antti Miettinen scored two quick goals in the third period for the Finns bringing the score to a tense 3-2. Powerhouse Rick Nash, named the tournament's MVP, locked the win up with his final goal at just over a minute to play.
