I had my second aciddent today (thats 2 in 3 months). Luckily, i was not at fault this time. some guy in an old pathfinder rear ended me while i was at a red light. i didnt notice any damage at the time, so i just let him go. once the initial shock wore off, i found a dent in my bumper, but the bumper was already bent anyways. i needed to replace it at some point, so im not really out anything either way. the truck still drives as well as before, so no serious damage. on the upside though, now i have more reason to get a new bumper, or maybe a rollpan. the local custom car show/swap meet is on this weekend, so i will see what kind of deals i can find. something good can still come from this.

Exactly. The bumper was already pushed in on that side where my stepdad had backed into someone a few years ago, so the plastic pad had been wearing on the paint. That isnt any worse, so the truck itself is no worse than it was. The bumper is a bit more irritating, but it isnt that bad considering i didn't even noticed it the first two times i looked for it.

Its just more motivation to either get a nicer-looking bumper or better yet a rollpan. :great:

Not to mention a truck is a truck.. A few bumps and bruises can be expected.. Think if you had been in one of these new fancy SUVs youd probably have a totaled car... Plus bumpers at the junk yard are a dime a dozen.. So if you decide to stay stock there is always that route.

i like having a vehicle with the steel bumpers. none of this collapsible bumper crap. the other guy is lucky he had an old suv with a steel bumper. my bumper did quite a bit of damage when i backed into a car at super low speed. i cant imagine what would be left of a car if it hit me at the speed he did.

anyway, i woul like a rollpan, but im debating whether it is worth losing the trailer hitch. i havent actually needed it yet though, and will probably have a newer truck before i do need it. if i can find a good deal on a rollpan, i will probably go that route and figure out a way that paint wont kill me. its strange around here - maaco advertise there ability to paint a car for like $149, but they wanted over $300 just to do a bumper cover.:gasp:. so far ive only found one shop cheaper, too.

Well that isnt surprising.. and have you seen the paint jobs they do????

i know the cheap maaco jobs suck, but thats all i needed for the bumper on the car i backed into. you would think if they can do cheap paint ona car for 149 that they should be able to do a new, no prep involved bumper cover for under 100. it cost me 260 to paint it. in hindsight, it was a waste since its been ready for 2 months and she seems to have no interest in having the parts put on the car.

Thats how things seem to work... Then again i have parts laying around for my truck i havent gotten time to install yet since i am looking for other "more" important items.

that makes sense to me - i am the same way, but this is a girl who goes to my school, and the work was going to be done at the school's auto shop. All she has to do is drop it off when she gets there one morning and pick it up at the end of the day - it couldn't get much easier. Oh well, I only bought the grille and bumper cover. If she cant take it to the shop at the school to get that done, I think it would be way too much of an inconvenience for her to take it to get a quote on straightening the hood, so that saves me some money.

At this point, the shop just wants her parts out of there, so they are ready to give them to her off of the car, and she will have to pay someone else to put them on at her convenience. I guarantee I am not paying for installation twice.

As far as paint goes though, if i could get myself a good air compressor and a decent paint gun, I would learn it myself. Its something that I would like to be able to do anyway.
