  1. Another 5.3 with AFM bites the dust ~ Chevrolet Active Fuel Management Problems

    GM Powertrain
As the original poster that started this thread, I wanted to give an update on my truck. (Yep, I still have it) Since having the new engine installed nearly 4 years ago, I've put right at 90k miles on the truck and the new engine without a single issue and without using a drop of oil. The...
  2. Another 5.3 with AFM bites the dust ~ Chevrolet Active Fuel Management Problems

Update to my original post that started this thread: (sorry for the novel) Sorry this has taken so long, but I wanted to get everything resolved before posting anything. (Legal action was a possibility and with GM monitoring these forums, I didn’t want to tip my hand) To that extent, I...
  3. Another 5.3 with AFM bites the dust ~ Chevrolet Active Fuel Management Problems

    GM Powertrain
Just as a follow up question: Has this problem been fixed in the newer model years or is it too soon to tell? Just thinking about all of my future options, one of them being an engine swap, but curious if I'd be at risk of having the same issues.

Steve: To answer your questions the truck has had a pretty easy life for a truck. It's main use is my daily commuter vehicle which consists of a 50 mile round trip 50% interstate and 50% rural 2 lane roads. It has never been used in any type of a commercial setting. I do have a 3500 lb boat I...

Update: Dealership called me monday and asked if I wanted a new motor or to repair the one in the truck. Told me I needed to kinda decide which way I wanted to go so they could see what they could do for me with their district service manager. (they were very vauge with this) Told them I...

    GM Powertrain
History: Bought truck new- 2007 Silverado Crew Cab LTZ Z71 4x4 with 5.3 and active fuel management. All was great for a while, first new vehicle I'd ever owned. At 54,500 miles check engine light comes on and has misfire-dealer diagnosed as no compression on cylinder7, Replaced collapsed...
  7. Troubleshooting a P0307 code

    GM Powertrain
Finally gave up and took it to the dealership. They found it had a bad lifter. The good news is it's covered under the 100k powertrain warranty. The bad news is it's got a bad lifter. Oh well, life goes on.
  8. Where's Cylinder #7

    GM Powertrain
Where's cylinder #7 on a new body style 2007 silverado w/ 5.3??? I'm assuming it will be on the driver's side closest to the firewall. Is this right?
  9. Z71 replacement tires? 265/65/18

    Wheels & Tires
Thanks for all the replies. I did notice the BFG's come in that size, but as was said earlier, there more of an off road tire. Since my truck seems to have become the main family hauler and boat puller, I want to lean towards more of a highway tire with a little less road noise. As far a it...
  10. Z71 replacement tires? 265/65/18

    Wheels & Tires
I've got a 2007 new body style silverado Z71 that came stock with Bridgestone Duelers A/T 265/65-18. I've been unhappy with them since day one. They are cupping pretty bad on the inside tread pads. I've streched them to 40k miles by relentlessly rotating the tires, but even that is no longer...
