Trying this post again. I have an 07 Tahoe 5.3 with 105k miles. About 3 years ago I noticed even in the extreme cold it starts up without a higher initial idle. Is there a sensor that tells it what to idle at? I replaced the TBI unit and took it to the shop to have it programmed but that didn't make a difference. We have the the truck to our son so now it sits outside in the winter. Makes it hard to remote start. Any ideas?

The newer engines rely upon the coolant temperature sensor less than the TBI engines did of the late 80s and early 90s. However, that doesn’t mean you can ignore checking it. If you haven’t checked on the thermostat, then replace both.

They really don't high idle any more, the computer is provided with temp data and sets the idle mixture richer in the cold temps.
