So, I'm not sure if I fucked this up at all but here it goes

My truck states to put it in park when shifting between 4L 2H and 4H. The truck will not shift into 4H no matter what, but 4L no problem. I put the truck into Neutral and I could shift into 4H without issue but if I switch it back to park while in 4H it will say I'm doing 5Km/H at a stand still and if I try to over the 4X4 lever it will just make a grinding sound. (I only let it do the grind sound for like 2 seconds)

So I shifted it back to neutral, shut the truck off and shift it back to 2H turned it on and was able to shift into park without issues. Is there something wrong with my 4x4?

I just rebuilt the truck but never experienced this issue before?

Thanks in advance to any and all help, I really hope I didn't **** this truck up I saved her from a wrecker.

Probably the same as my 94 K1500 4x4 (Z71) - I've always been able to shift easily 2H <-> 4H while moving at any speed. Just ease up on the gas when making the shift. To go 4H <-> 4L, you need to pop it in Neutral and a slow roll 2-3mph, then make the shift. Mine grinds a little, so I do it quick

I would respectfully disagree about going into 4L while moving at all. I always come to a complete stop, then drop in into 4L. No noise and a solid shift.

4L should be at a stop...like cowboy says...4H should be fine up to about 35 (while in gear/driving)...assuming you have the np241 to np246...sometimes 4l can be a little "sticky" but 4h should be pretty smooth. Hubs take the brunt

At this point in time im shifting into 4x4 while in park, seems to be the only way, but now its 4L giving me the hassel of not letting me shift even in park or nuetral 4H seems to be shifting fine now

Hm, Ill try to say it better. My truck would only shift in to 4L while in neutral but nothing else (it will not shift out of 4L unless you shut the truck off) it will shift into 4H and 2WD jsut fine without issues while in Neutrual. But a few days ago the issue was the opposite. I much rather 4H anyways. Does that clear it up?

If they haven't been used in a while, they can be a little "stiff" sometimes, 4h will probably not enjoy P for shifting... As long as your gear ratios match, 35mph should be no problem for 4h... Or at least, I have never had an issue, I have 240(ish)K on a stock t case right now...that is consistently used in this manner. 4l can be a bit more "finicky" especially if mostly unused.

The truck sat for 5 years until I rescued it from a junkyard, I had the blown tranny rebuilt and fixed up the rest, I won't shift it in parkm even though it worked the first time the 4L won't budge at all, what would be the best course of action to get it to actually shift

Have you driven it yet? Some rotation can help, other than that, start with the linkage...

I'll certainly try Cowboytrukr's recommendation of being at a complete stop when shifting into/out of 4LO, and I think I must have done that at one time or another when forward planning fails and that's your only option. Here's the section from the owner's manual, wonder why they recommend a small speed during the shift?

2H (2-Wheel High): This setting is for driving in most street and highway situations. Your front axle is not engaged in two-wheel drive.
4H (4-Wheel High): This setting engages your front axle to help drive your vehicle. Use 4H when you need extra traction, such as on wet or icy roads, or in most off-road situations.
N (Neutral): Shift to this setting only when your vehicle needs to be towed or when using a power take-off.
4L (4-Wheel Low): This setting also engages your front axle to give you extra power, but should be used only for off-road driving.
You can shift from 2H to 4H or from 4H to 2H while the vehicle is moving. Your front axle will engage faster if you take your foot off of the accelerator for a few seconds after you shift. In extremely cold weather it may be necessary to stop or slow the vehicle to shift out of 2H.
To shift into or out of 4L or “N” (Neutral):
-- Slow the vehicle to a roll, about 1-3 mph (2-5 kdh) and shift your transmission into neutral.
-- Shift the transfer case shift lever in one continuous motion. Don’t pause in “N” (Neutral) as you shift the transfer case into 4L, or your gears could clash.
Remember that driving in 4H or 4L may reduce fuel economy. Also, driving in four-wheel drive on dry pavement could cause your tires to wear faster and make your transfer case harder to shift.
Front Axle Locking Feature
The front axle locks and unlocks automatically when you shift the transfer case. Some delay for the axle to lock or unlock is normal. If the outside temperature is very hot, or the vehicle has been used under hard driving conditions, there may be a slight delay for the axle to unlock. Whenever you are in four wheel drive, the rear wheel anti-lock brake system does not operate. The regular brake system operates normally. When you shift back into two-wheel drive, the anti-lock brake system will operate.
